What MacGames does for it.

Path of Exile 2 (PoE 2) is a Windows game. MacGames brings the parts it needs to run on a Mac, and sets them up for you.

DirectX 12 through Metal
MacGames sets the game's renderer to DirectX 12, which Apple's D3DMetal turns into Metal.
Display settings that suit the Mac
The first launch uses borderless fullscreen in a maximized window, with engine multithreading on. Settings you choose yourself stay.
Wine tuned for the game
Wine's msync is off for this game, which needs Wine's other sync method.
One Steam for your games
The game installs into the shared Steam library, so you sign in to Steam once for all your games.
